Kultur & Art Initiative was established in 2002 as an intercultural and intergenerational non-profit association with members from different nations, age groups and careers who have got work experiences in media production, non-formal education and media education.
The aim is to develop and implement art and culture projects with people from different origins. The concept is based on contents of social and intercultural integration.
The staff comes from different backgrounds and fields of study, such as Arts, Communication, Educational Sciences, Psychology and Human Rights. All of them, during the year, take part in several training courses, at European level, based on non-formal education to improve their skills and competences as mentors and facilitators.
We want to work against the passive culture consumption with active culture work. That is why we offer participants of our events (international youth exchanges; educational workshops on media) creative and project-orientated opportunities. In cooperation and in context of the EU-Program Erasmus+ Youth in action, we arrange youth encounters several times a year.
The focus is on youth from different countries building up a project together, and them to discuss different topics and to get to know about the other cultures, countries and their background. In the centre of the project efforts; there is the aim to bring life, culture and discussions closer to the youth.
We cooperate with the culture team of City of Detmold, Federal Foreign Office, Filmuniversität Babelsberg Konrad Wolf, the University of Applied Sciences – Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe, radios and television and some local associations.
Our office is in Detmold, by the culture factory Hangar 21.
